Smallmouth Bass Opener Report

Finally Bass Fishing!

Well, After what seemed like an endless winter, Smallmouth Bass Season Opened Saturday, May 5th. It was a great day and I was super excited to be back in the Ranger 620FS guiding customers! We found great pods of fish on Saturday in most of the spots we fished. We were able to catch about 4 or 5 fish from each location and ended up with 37 fish saturday. The biggest fish we caught was a Giant Door County pre-spawn female that weighted just under 6lbs!! A lot of big fish are up in the shallows currently and a lot are still out in the bay waiting for the water to warm up a bit more. Sundays weather was a lot different then Saturdays 70 deg and sunny. It was windy and raining so we switched it up and ran some deeper shoreline breaks and found a pile of Big Smallies.  We used multiple techniques to catch over 80 fish this weekend. The main techniques were Howie’s Tackle Tubes, Hair Jigs, and Lucky Craft Pointers. Big thanks to my customers this weekend, Brian and Howard. Hope to see you both again next season! We had a great time working the Shallows bays of Door County to catch many Trophy Smallies! This water is definitely colder then most seasons but that should extend our spring bite even longer this year. Dates are still available for this season! Call or Email to Book you trip!

Thanks

Captain Jimmy
